In Flip-Pix koppel je een letter aan een plaatje. “Flip” je deck en koppel nu een plaatje aan een letter.
Flip-Pix is een snel reactiespel voor (kinderen van) alle leeftijden.

Flip-Pix een eerste indruk

Flip-Pix is een klein kaartspelletje; één deck kaarten met de spelregels ook op een kaart gedrukt. Het ziet er niet heel spectaculair uit; op de ene zijde van de kaarten staan 3 letters. Aan de andere zijde staan 4 afbeeldingen. Deze tekeningen voelen nogal ‘simpel’ aan. Eerlijk gezegd zien ze eruit alsof ze van zo’n ouderwetse gratis-plaatjes site komen.
De spelregels zijn kort en duidelijk, daar hou ik wel van.

Hoe wordt het gespeeld?

De kaarten worden, indien nodig, gesorteerd zodat ze allemaal met dezelfde zijde naar boven liggen. Daarna worden ze geschud en wordt de bovenste kaart in het midden van de tafel gelegd.
De overige kaarten worden eerlijk verdeeld onder de spelers. De kaart in het midden van de tafel wordt omgedraaid als alle spelers er klaar voor zijn.
Deze kaart toont nu 4 afbeeldingen. De spelers doorzoeken nu hun deck, op zoek naar een letter die ze kunnen koppelen aan één van de afbeeldingen. Als zij die gevonden heeft, legt zij de kaart boven op de kaart op tafel (En zegt de koppeling hardop, ter controle). Op tafel ligt nu dus een letterkaart. Nu draaien de spelers allemaal hun deck om, opdat ze op zoek kunnen gaan naar een afbeelding die te koppelen is aan de letters die nu op tafel liggen. Hierbij geldt slechts 1 regel; De koppeling mag niet dezelfde zijn als die ervoor gemaakt is; dus Beer – B – Beer mag niet.

De speler die als eerste haar deck heeft leeggespeeld, wint het spel.

Wat vinden we van Flip-Pix?

Eerlijk is eerlijk, na het openen van het spel, het zien van de kaartjes en het lezen van de spelregels had ik er eigenlijk niet zoveel fiducie in. Ik trommelde de kinderen op om een spelletje te spelen. Vol verwachting, in tegenstelling tot ikzelf, kwamen ze aan tafel. En wat bleek? Het spel werkte fantastisch! Zowel Mikolaj als Leonore gingen als razende robbies door hun decks heen op zoek naar de goede letter of een goede afbeelding. Ik moet het ze nageven; Die kinderbreinen zijn een stuk creatiever dan dat van mij. Ik heb mooie dingen voorbij zien komen; Ketchup kan ook gewoon tomatensaus zijn als je een T nodig hebt en een plaatje van een buffel kun je ook bij de H inzetten, want hij heeft Hoorns!!
Het enthousiasme en het fanatisme van de kinderen had ik niet verwacht en werkte ontzettend aanstekelijk. Ik vond het zelf ‘ineens’ ook leuk om op zoek te gaan naar combinaties.
Ik moest het afleggen tegen mijn oudste zoon (7 jaar), die was een stuk sneller en creatiever dan ik.

Omdat ik het spel speelde met 2 beginnende lezers (7 en 5,5) heb ik ervoor gekozen om voor hen geen onderscheid te maken tussen letters die hetzelfde klinken (F en V, S en Z). Ik vertelde ze wel; ‘Vlinder is eigenlijk met de V’ maar ze mochten het kaartje wel neerleggen.
Ik denk dat dit spel hierdoor ook heel goed ingezet kan worden als educatief materiaal op bijvoorbeeld een school en ik denk er dan ook over na om een exemplaar te schenken aan de school van mijn oudste zoon.

Eindconclusie: Flip-Pix heeft mij, in positieve zin, ontzettend verrast. Het spel is simpel en dat is de uitwerking ook, maar dat maakt voor het spelplezier eigenlijk niets uit.

Flip-Pix: first impressions

Flip-Pix is a small card game; one deck of cards with the rules of the game also printed on a card. It doesn’t look very spectacular; on one side of the cards are three letters. On the other side are four images. These drawings feel rather ‘simple’. To be honest, they look like they come from one of those old-fashioned free image sites.

The rules of the game are short and clear, which I like.

How is it played?

If necessary, the cards are sorted so that they are all facing the same way. They are then shuffled and the top card is placed in the middle of the table.

The remaining cards are divided equally among the players. The card in the middle of the table is turned over when all players are ready.

This card now shows four images. The players search their decks for a letter that they can match to one of the images. When they find it, they place the card on top of the card on the table (and say the match aloud, for verification). There is now a letter card on the table. The players then all turn over their decks so that they can search for an image that can be linked to the letters now on the table. There is only one rule: the link cannot be the same as the one made before, so Bear – B – Bear is not allowed.

The first player to empty their deck wins the game.

What do we think of Flip-Pix?

To be honest, after opening the game, seeing the cards, and reading the rules, I wasn’t very confident about it. I rounded up the children to play a game. Full of anticipation, unlike me, they came to the table. And what happened? The game worked fantastically! Both Mikolaj and Leonore went through their decks like crazy, looking for the right letter or image. I have to give them credit; those kids’ brains are a lot more creative than mine. I saw some great things: Ketchup can also be tomato sauce if you need a T, and a picture of a buffalo can also be used for the H, because it has horns! !

I hadn’t expected the children’s enthusiasm and fanaticism, and it was incredibly contagious. I suddenly found myself enjoying looking for combinations too.

I had to admit defeat to my eldest son (7 years old), who was a lot faster and more creative than me.

Because I was playing the game with two beginning readers (7 and 5.5), I decided not to distinguish between letters that sound the same (F and V, S and Z) for them. I did tell them, “Butterfly is actually with the V,” but they were allowed to put the card down.

I think this game could also be used very well as educational material in schools, for example, and I am considering donating a copy to my eldest son’s school.

Final conclusion: Flip-Pix surprised me in a positive way. The game is simple, and so is the outcome, but that doesn’t detract from the fun of playing.
