In de studio van Tailor Master krijgen de meest kleurrijke kledingstukken vorm.
Wie lukt het om als eerste het kledingstuk precies zo te naaien als de opdracht aangeeft?
Tailor Master is een reactiespel voor 2 spelers vanaf ongeveer 3 jaar.

Tailor Master – een eerste indruk

Wat een vrolijkheid straalt dit spel uit. Vrolijke, kleurrijke patronen zijn waar het spel om gaat.
Op de doos staat 3+ een echt kinderspel dus. De onderdelen zijn daar ook echt op aangepast. De doeken zijn van stof en daarmee beter bestand tegen kinderhandjes dan bijvoorbeeld papier of karton. De opdrachtkaarten zijn van stevig dik karton en de mallen van hard plastic. De gebruikte materialen en het formaat maken de onderdelen uitermate geschikt voor kinderhandjes.

Hoe wordt het gespeeld?

Tailor Master speelt ontzettend simpel weg.
Beide spelers krijgen een lap stof waarop allerlei patronen in verschillende kleuren staan.
Daarnaast krijgen ze beiden 2 mallen; een broek en een trui. In het midden van de tafel wordt de bel geplaatst.

Nu wordt er een opdrachtenkaart omgedraaid. De speler die als eerste de juiste mal op de goede plek op de lap geplaatst denkt te hebben, slaat op de bel.
Als de speler inderdaad het juiste patroon heeft, mag hij het opdrachtkaartje houden als overwinningspunt.
Dan wordt de volgende opdrachtkaart omgedraaid.

Wat vinden we van Tailor Master?

De uitwerking van Tailor Master is in één woord geweldig. De onderdelen zijn kleurrijk, stevig en ideaal voor (kleine) kinderen.
Groot pluspunt aan het spel is dat het zowel leerzaam is; patronen herkennen, spiegelen, ruimtelijk inzicht, als écht een spel. Het blijkt bij kinderspellen toch vaak lastig die twee te combineren, maar Tailor Master heeft dat echt goed gedaan.
Het slaan op de bel geeft natuurlijk een leuk effect, maar kan ook voor gedoe en pijnlijke vingers zorgen. Wie heeft zich niet ooit bezeerd tijdens een fanatiek potje Halli Galli ?
In de basis is Tailor Master een heel leuk spel, wat van mij dan ook ‘gewoon’ een 7 krijgt als eindcijfer.
Toch zijn er wel 2 dingen die ik persoonlijk jammer vind;
Er zijn relatief veel ‘simpele’ opdrachtkaarten, ideaal voor jongere spelers. Maar ik mis hierin wel een beetje de uitdaging voor oudere/gevorderde spelers. Er zijn enkele opdrachten die moeilijker zijn; je moet dan 2 of zelfs 4 patronen met elkaar combineren, maar hiervan zitten er relatief weinig in het spel.
Alle opdrachtkaarten hebben hetzelfde ‘uiterlijk’. Het zou een kleine moeite zijn de kaarten te nummeren of kleuren, zodat je niveau 1-2-3 hebt, waarbij je dan zelf kunt kiezen welke kaarten je wel/niet gebruikt.
Daarnaast is Tailor Master een 2 speler-spel. Normaal gesproken vind ik dat geen probleem, maar voor een kinderspel voelt dat toch wat ‘gek’. Vaak wil je zo iets als gezin spelen en ben je met meer dan 2. Als je als ouder alleen met je jonge kind speelt, ben je toch vaak in het voordeel. Dit maakt het dan meteen een minder leuk spel, maar meer een educatief ding. (Waar dit spel zich dus ook uitermate goed voor leent!)

Tailor Master – a first impression

This game radiates cheerfulness. Bright, colorful patterns are what this game is all about.
The box says 3+, so it’s definitely a children’s game. The components are also designed with this in mind. The fabric pieces are made of cloth, which makes them more resistant to children’s hands than paper or cardboard, for example. The task cards are made of sturdy thick cardboard and the templates are made of hard plastic. The materials used and the size make the components ideal for children’s hands.
How is it played?

Tailor Master is incredibly simple to play.
Both players receive a piece of fabric with all kinds of patterns in different colors.
They also receive two templates: a pair of pants and a sweater. The bell is placed in the middle of the table.

Now a task card is turned over. The player who thinks they have placed the correct template in the right place on the piece of fabric rings the bell.
If the player has indeed found the correct pattern, they get to keep the task card as a victory point.
Then the next task card is turned over.

What do we think of Tailor Master?

The design of Tailor Master is, in one word; fantastic. The pieces are colorful, sturdy, and ideal for (young) children.
A big plus point of the game is that it is both educational—recognizing patterns, mirroring, spatial awareness—and a real game. It is often difficult to combine these two aspects in children’s games, but Tailor Master has done it really well.
Hitting the bell is a fun effect, of course, but it can also cause hassle and sore fingers. Who hasn’t hurt themselves during a fanatical game of Halli Galli?
Basically, Tailor Master is a very fun game, which is why I give it a ‘regular’ 7 as a final score.
However, there are two things that I personally find unfortunate:
There are relatively many ‘simple’ task cards, which are ideal for younger players. But I do miss a bit of a challenge for older/more advanced players. There are a few tasks that are more difficult; you have to combine two or even four patterns, but there are relatively few of these in the game.
All task cards have the same ‘appearance’. It would be a small effort to number or color the cards so that you have levels 1-2-3, allowing you to choose which cards you do or do not use.

In addition, Tailor Master is a 2-player game. Normally, I don’t think that’s a problem, but for a children’s game it feels a bit ‘strange’. Often you want to play something like this as a family and there are more than 2 of you. If you play alone with your young child as a parent, you often have an advantage. This immediately makes it less fun and more of an educational thing. (Which is exactly what this game is great for!)
